I cannot tell you how EXCITED I am to have a front porch to decorate for the holidays! It’s our first Halloween at the townhouse and whether we end up getting trick or treaters or not, the decorations were going up! This is the first time EVER in my adult life that I’ve actually had a front porch of my own and not just an apartment door so I definitely had a lot of fun with it!

Our front porch isn’t super big so we decided to also take advantage of our Juliette balcony for some decor! We added a skeleton we had, as well as some spider webs and lights. Since he gets s little windy up there too we also tied the skeleton to the balcony with some twine.

My other favorite part of our decor are these bats! How fun right?!

Next up is the front porch! Of course we all know the real stars of the season are pumpkins! We picked up a bunch of varieties at Trader Joes this year. I also brought out a wood crate we had to add a little height and give us more space to stack pumpkins. Add in some corn cobs and some lights and the front porch was ready to go!

Wreath: Option 1 & Option 2 | Halloween Ornaments: Similar

Another fun decor element is our wreath. I actually got this years ago when I was living in NYC and thought I was splurging (it was a whole $30 😂). What I love about it is since it’s black and silver I can change the decorations to match the holiday. In NYC this was more a matter of space, but even still I like having the option. So for Halloween, I add a spider and some Halloween ornaments. For Christmas, I swap out the ornaments, add some ribbon and a hanging snowflake. Then for Valentine’s Day, I add some cute heart lights. It’s nice to have something that is versatile!

To finish off our decorations, we added spider webs to our bushes with plastic spiders sprinkled throughout them. Then a few faux tombstones in our flower beds!

It was so fun getting in the spirit! I hope you liked the tour and maybe even got some inspo for your decorations too!

Oktoberfest Rewind

Between the hurricane, Nor’Eastern, the election and now Thanksgiving, somehow October kind of got skipped over. So I’m going to take you all on a little rewind to capture the month that came and went so fast!

Fall is by far my favorite season in the city. The air begins to cool to the perfect temperature for boots and scarves, but not cold enough for your winter jacket and ear muffs yet! October also marks the beginning of the ‘decorative’ season when people start to get excited about the holidays starting with Halloween. Frankenstorm may have put a damper on this year’s Halloween celebration (even postponing the holiday in New Jersey) but the holiday did still have some play time in the city. Here are a couple shots of my favorite decorated brownstones.

What’s another great part about October? Oktoberfest! There are several Oktoberfest festivals that happen throughout the month in the city and my friends and I decided to celebrate my tiny-bit of German heritage with a beer at Bierhaus. Now when I say “a beer” maybe I should specify with this picture…

Not exactly the average size.. but when you are celebrating Oktoberfest, do as the Germans do! The Bierhaus was great, complete with bench seating, bartenders in traditional attire and a German band with an accordion. I can happily say I got my workout for the day in too that evening lifting that mug up! After struggling with one, my friends and I were amazed by the women bartenders that came around carrying 4 or 5 at a time. I wouldn’t pick a fight with those girls! ;-)

And So We Carved Some Pumpkins..

The time had come for… Pumpkin carving! Now, I haven’t carved a pumpkin in years, and I’ve definitely never carved one without a stencil. This year I decided to live life on the wild side and go freehand. In hindsight I’m not so sure that was the best idea.. turns out I’m not very good at it! In fact, I kind of just started carving an “O” for Oregon and spaced the fact that if you start carving a circle it just carves a hole in the pumpkin and definitely doesn’t look like an Oregon “O”. Minor obstacle though. Good thing there are two sides of the pumpkin to carve! Here were our finished products!

Chris was very proud of his New York Giant pumpkin, and I must say his carving skills are much better than mine!
